Job Description

This position will audit University departments and programs for compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures, test internal controls, and make recommendations to improve business processes.

General Duties & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, and a self-starter who can perform the following duties under the direction and guidance of the Audit Director:
• Performs audits which include reviewing accounting policies and procedures, providing analytical reviews, making data comparisons, and analyzing operating procedures.
• Assists in identifying and evaluating the organization’s significant risk areas and provides input in the development of the Annual Audit Plan.
• Attends and documents interviews with all levels of University administration, faculty, and staff.
• Performs Data Analytics to understand and identify areas of risk.
• Determines the nature and scope of audits and develops risk-based audit programs.
• Identifies, develops, and documents the examination and analysis of evidence using independent judgment concerning areas being reviewed to ensure the effectiveness of internal controls, the accuracy of transactions, and compliance with applicable laws and University policies.
• Prepares associated work papers, and documents controls, processes and procedures, develops audit reports, including drafting findings and recommendations for improved business processes and internal controls, for use by University administration and the Board of Trustees.
• Supervises and oversees the work responsibilities of audit interns, and assists them in completing their assignments and reviewing their work to ensure quality.
• Pursues professional development opportunities, including external and internal training to maintain relevance in the audit profession, and shares information gained with co-workers.
• Maintains currency in professional licenses and engages in professional associations
• Occasionally represents the Internal Audit Department on ad-hoc organizational projects, team, and at management meetings.
• Manages multiple assignments concurrently.
• Assists with day-to-day departmental administrative tasks.
• Performs other related work as assigned by the Director of Internal Audit.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
• 1 to 2 years of relevant experience (e.g., Auditor, Data Analyst, Consultant, Accountant, Financial Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Database Administrator).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in either a Business or Computer Science related field, (Preference may be given to specific skills and experience in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, or Structured Query Language (SQL)).
• 2 or more years’ experience in internal audit and/or external audit environment.
• One or more of the following professional designations: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Preferred Technical Skills
o Microsoft Excel
o Microsoft Access
o Audit Automation (e.g., scripting, querying and aggregating information, matching, filtering, etc.)
o Proficiency with SQL
o Risk and control identification and assessment
o Strong knowledge of financial systems (ellucian’s Banner)
o Familiar with data analytics software (e.g., ACL, CaseWare IDEA, Arbutus, etc…)
o A strong process-orientation is preferred (ie., can quickly understand process and business issues, and how IT systems support processes)
o Experience with coding in computer programming languages
o Analytic reporting and dashboard development

Physical Demands

Light – Physical effort normally found in clerical work or the equivalent. Work is primarily sedentary; however, occasional handling of small objects (up to 15 lbs.) and frequent walking or standing may be required.
