Job Description

The Community Coordinator (CC) is responsible for community development and co-curricular education within a residential community of approximately 320 students. The CC will be ultimately responsible for the supervision of 5 Resident Assistants during the academic year and 3-4 Summer Assistants during conferencing season. The CC will report directly to the Director of University Housing. This is a live-in, 12-month position.

General Duties & Responsibilities

1. Train, supervise and evaluate 5 Resident Assistants during the academic year and 3-4 Summer Assistants during the summer.
2. Responsible for the overall administration of a residential community of approximately 320 students.
3. Implement and enforce policy with regard to safety and security housing-wide.
4. Serve on a University Housing-wide 24 hour on-call duty rotation and assist with crisis management as appropriate.
5. Develop partnerships across academic disciplines for the implementation of living learning communities.
6. Assist in departmental marketing through regular participation in major campus recruitment events.
7. Assist with development and implementation of long and short-term strategic departmental programs.
8. Implement and oversee the University Housing Activity Model with student-staff and attend these programs and functions.
9. Manage applicable budgets for areas of responsibility, committees and/or special projects.
10. Collaborate with the other University Housing Coordinators to plan and implement the Resident Assistant training.
11. In collaboration with Guest Services, manage University Housing summer guest operations including reservations, check-ins and departures utilizing University Housing’s conferencing software, Conference Programmer.
12. Manage scheduling for front desk operations.
13. Schedule on-duty rotation for Resident Assistant and Summer Assistant staff.
14. Other duties as assigned.

The CC will respond to questions and concerns from students, parents, guests and Southern Utah University faculty and staff. Inquiries from the general public and Southern Utah University community, regional and national media outlets will be referred to the Director of University Housing. The CC must be able to cultivate positive, professional and developmental relationships with colleagues, peers and students.

The CC will directly supervise Resident Assistants and Summer Assistants. There will be considerable responsibility for directing peers and colleagues in project and committee settings under the supervision of the Director of University Housing.

The CC should function independently in order to accomplish assigned projects. Refers unusual problems to supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Education, Training and Skills
1. Proficiency in various office software packages including word processing, spreadsheets and email.
2. Proficiency in working with Google products (email, sites, docs, calendar), and familiarity with Facebook Groups
3. Knowledge of Saflok and Adirondack Solutions software including Housing Director and Conduct Coordinator preferred.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

1. Knowledge of Adirondack Solutions software including Housing Director and Conduct Coordinator preferred.
2. Resident Assistant experience in university student housing or relevant higher education program preferred.
3. Work with culturally diverse populations, student supervision, advising, and fiscal management preferred.
4. Public speaking, training design and facilitation, and judicial affairs experience preferred.
5. Bachelor’s degree required.
6. Master degree preferred.

Physical Demands

Work will typically be contained to a traditional office environment. However, it will not be unusual for the CC to spend multiple nights, early mornings or weekend days responding to student needs and participating in campus events.
