Job Description

The Director of Donor Relations and Special Events works closely with the development team and Festival executive leadership and oversees the Festival’s individual, corporate, and foundation sponsorships, fundraising galas, and other special events. Sponsorships include but are not limited to annual production sponsors, artistic sponsorships, and one-time event sponsors. This position executes the Festival’s grant application processes, including copywriting and submissions. This position also serves as a liaison with other entities within the Festival for the purposes of identifying major corporate, and foundation prospects. This position requires travel, and long night and weekend hours especially on-site during the Festival’s season. The Director of Donor Relationships and Special Events reports directly to the Development Director.

General Duties & Responsibilities

1. Coordinate and carry out individual, corporate, and foundation sponsorship communications including personal visits, letters, calls, and any other means of contact.
2. Responsible for oversight and execution of all Festival fundraising galas, recurring and one-time special events, receptions, etc.
3. Manage relationships with current and prospective mid and high level donors.
4. Work closely with fundraising team to coordinate, identify, and solicit potential sponsorship prospects.
5. Organize and arrange for special events, receptions, meetings, etc. in conjunction with director of development.
6. Work with development staff to develop and execute new fundraising initiatives, activities, and events.
7. Direct and assist for grant requests and/or proposals.
8. Work with and cultivate development volunteers.
9. Oversee and carry out sponsor recognition programs.
10. Engage and report to the USF Board of Governors members about identifying corporate and foundation prospects, fundraising events, and galas.
11. Work within annual operating budget to achieve departmental goals.
12. Maintain and keep records of solicited and cultivated prospects.
13. Assist in the writing and formulation of printed and digital development materials and social media campaigns.
14. Occasional evening and weekend work as well as some travel is required.
15. Other duties as assigned by the Advancement Director.

Required Qualifications

Education, Training, and Skills
1. Bachelor’s degree required or, in lieu of degree, 5-7 years of nonprofit or relevant administrative experience.
2. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Ability to exercise sound judgment independently when responding to inquiries and interacting with corporations and foundations.
4. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and be mindful of deadlines, schedules, and be “big picture’ oriented.
5. Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
6. Possess a professional demeanor and ability to respond promptly to colleagues and prospects.
7. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; develop alternative solutions to situations.
8. Ability to work in a fast-paced, and be flexible in, a changing environment.
9. Macintosh computer skills a plus.
10. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
11. Requires manual dexterity using calculator and computer keyboard. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
12. Must have auditory, visual, and physical skills to be able to perform tasks as outlined in this job description.

1. Experience in fundraising, preferably in a non-profit professional performing arts entity is desired.
2. Experience in sales, marketing, or public relations helpful. Experience with donor research and prospecting highly desirable.

In accordance with Utah State Code 53B-1-110, appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful passing of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree in related field.
