Job Title Financial Aid Counselor - Aviation Coordinator
Job Description

The Financial Aid Counselor will be responsible for all aspects of Federal Financial Aid for aviation students, including verification, packaging, consortium agreements, document management, appeals committees, etc. In addition, this counselor will actively seek additional funding sources for the aviation students including lenders willing to lend to aviation students, grants, scholarships, internships, and other aviation education specific financing resources.

General Duties & Responsibilities

1. Cultivate an active and current working knowledge of Federal, State, and University regulations and procedures for federal aid and scholarships, as well as the computer systems and other tools, manuals, and equipment necessary to function effectively in the SUU Financial Aid Office. This is accomplished by participating in training workshops and conferences and through extensive personal study.
2. Provide Financial Aid counseling and perform all aspects of the awarding and monitoring process for all students enrolled in the SUU Aviation program, including data entry, verification, consortium agreements, loan processing, special circumstances appeals, calculate Return of Title IV, track over awards, etc.
3. Supply information relative to federal financial aid applications, programs, procedures, institutional scholarships, borrowing options, and appropriate use of financial aid funds to prospective Aviation students.
4. Counsel Perkins and Stafford loan recipients on debt management and repayment obligations and options.
5. Create a Communication plan / process to advise and inform Aviation students of their Admission, Admitted, Financial Aid, and Enrolled Statuses.
6. Actively communicate with, in addition to the communication plan, and counsel Aviation students in determining funding availability; monitor funding for Aviation students, especially loans to ensure they do not over borrow.
7. Actively seek additional funding options for potential and admitted Aviation students. This includes Grants, Scholarships and Loans from lenders to increase the funding options for the Aviation students.
8. Assist with the operation and management of automated information and record keeping systems.
9. Participate in early awareness programs such as presentations for Recruitment Office and high school nights.
10. Perform other duties and functions as required or assigned.
11. Schedule appointments with all aviation students once per semester to discuss financial issues.
12. Work closely with Marketing, Admissions, Advising, VA, and operations to assist students in successful completions.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s of Arts/Science degree required.
2. Excellent Customer Service Skills and Experience.
3. Good Verbal and Written Communication Skills.
4. Ability to work pleasantly, cooperatively, and efficiently with other University personnel, students, and employers.
5. Ability to work with computers and other office equipment.

In accordance with Utah State Code 53B-1-110, appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful passing of a background check.
Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience working in a financial aid office.
2. Experience working with a Higher Education Financial Aid System (such as Banner, Colleague, etc.).
3. Aviation and Veterans Administration experience.
